Rose City Runners Team News - Kathy Hale
Ridgewood Run
We had a great turnout for the Ridgewood Run on Monday, May 31st.
It was another hot and sticky morning, but 23 RC2 runners completed
the 10K course! The race kicked off with the wheelchair 10K. Next
up was the 10K, with nearly 1,300 runners. This was a masters women
team race, and we entered 4 teams. They gave a great performance -
the 40's women took 6th and 9th, and the 50's and 60's women each
took 1st! The full results are below, including the age group
places by several of our team members.
After the 10K, the 5K went off with over 1700 runners, including Jacob Grayzel (Lynn's son), Lynn (2 races in 1 day!) and Ann Shea. Alexander Grayzel also participated in the mile-run later in the morning.
Congratulations to all who participated, and thanks to the non-masters women and all the men who came out to support the team. We had terrific cheerleaders in Kimberly, John and Jeff, Alexander and Jacob. Friendly faces and voices along the course make a big difference!
Ridgewood marked the end of the spring team racing season for the women.
President's Cup 5K
Nearly 1,500 runners came out on June 21st for the 31st
Annual President's Cup 5K. This is a very competitive race through
the streets of Millburn. Reputable sources reported that this was
the first year out of at least the last three that there was no rain
at some point during the race or the post-race party (last year we
had rainbows at the start!). 20 Rose City team members completed
this race, all of the results are below.
This was an Open Men team championship, and we had 9 men competing for the team. They placed 11th out of 21 teams. Take a look at their times - they were very, very competitive! Ken Cenicola, in his 1st race for RC2, ran a 5K PR.
Thanks to everyone who ran the race, and special thanks to Pam Helmer, Dick Celler and Stephanie Gentile who came out to cheer us on (and to have the beer ready at the finish line!). Pizza with the team capped off the evening!
Pine Beach 5K
On Sunday, June 27th, 17 Rose City Runners trekked to Pine Beach for
the Masters Men's Team Championship 5K.
Any hopes that it would be a little cooler than our last few races were dashed. Hot and humid conditions seem to be following us for all our team championship races; however, that didn't slow down the 9 men of Rose City! We entered three teams, and they each made our team proud. The men's 40s team placed 7th out of 10 teams, the men's 50s teams placed 4th out of nine teams and the 60s team placed 8th. Several of our runners also placed in their age groups (see full results below and at http://www.compuscore.com/cs2010/june/pinebch.htm#tm04). Thanks to the womens team members who raced to support the men's teams and welcome to Dick Helmer who raced his first 5K in Rose City blue!
Team & Individual
Standings
The
first round of team standings (as of June 20) were posted on June 20th
http://www.usatfnj.org/ldr/10/2010team_grandprix.htm.
Our 50's and 60's women's teams are in 1st place! The 40's women
and 50's men are in 5th and both open teams are in 10th. Overall
we're in 6th place out of 14 teams. Congratulations to everyone -
keep up the good work!
Individual results for the overall competition, Mini 1 and Mini 2 are posted at http://www.usatfnj.org/ldr/2010_GP_updates.html. They’ll be updated at the end of June, then again at the end of July. Check out your standings in each of the competitions. Remember that for each competition, you need a minimum number of races, so start looking ahead to the fall race schedule. Several RC2 members are on track to place high in their age groups!
Aileen Flanagan is now handling our RC2 shirts – make sure to let her know if you need an RC2 singlet before the fall race season starts. It’s also a good way to ‘publicize’ our team at other races.
Pine Beach is our last team race until Labor Day weekend. Mark your calendars for the fall races - http://www.usatfnj.org/ldr/2010_LDR_Championships.pdf. Thank you all for your participation this spring!
It’s not too late to join the 2010 RC2 race team – there are 7 more races in the fall and we’d love to have you join the team. The only requirements are enthusiasm and willingness to participate. Send me an email or talk to me or any other team member Saturday mornings for more information.
